Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić visited the construction site of the new kovid hospital in the Military Complex “Zemun ekonomija” at Batajnički Drum in Belgrade, the construction of which should be completed on December 1, and the first patients should be admitted a day later .

Vučić stated that no one believed that such a magnificent hospital could be built in four months.

“We are waiting like the freezing sun to open at least this part of the covid with 500 places of intensive care in seven days. It will mean a lot to us. When the time of the coronavirus passes, then we will use this hospital for other patients,” said Vucic.

He stated that Serbia will invest 60 million euros in this and the Krusevac hospital from its own funds, and another 30 million euros in equipment.

“At least a million doses of vaccine by the end of the year”

Vučić also said that the state will do its best to provide vaccines against the covid virus in the next month and that he “does not ask how much it costs.” He announced that Serbia will acquire “at least one million” doses of the coronavirus vaccine before the end of the year.

“We will try, it is our goal. I cannot guarantee. But to get at least a million doses by the end of the year. To provide health workers,” Vucic said during a night visit to the construction site of the KOVID hospital in Batajnica, near Belgrade.

He said that Serbia is part of the European Union’s “Kovaks” plan and that it will purchase the vaccines that the EU will purchase for itself: Pfizer or Moderna, but that “Chinese and Russian partners” will also be discussed.

Vučić stated that more than 22,000 citizens were tested today alone and that the daily level will soon be 30,000, which is exhausting for the human and financial capacities of healthcare in Serbia.

He announced that the first vaccines against the crown, when acquired, will be given to health workers, because 250,000 of them are the most threatened, and then to the army and the police. He also mentioned that he would receive the vaccine together with the first soldiers.

He claimed that 1,500 healthcare workers in Serbia are infected with the coronavirus.

During the tour of the new facility, Vučić greeted the workers, wished them a happy job and thanked them for their fighting spirit and their desire to do good for the state. The president wished a speedy recovery to the 80 workers infected by the coronavirus.

Health Minister Zlatibor Lončar, who visited the construction site with Vučić, said that the oxygen rooms were already ready.

The new hospital, whose construction began on August 1, will be multifunctional, with 550 intensive care beds and some 800 semi-intensive, and will have a total of 18,000 square meters. According to the announcements, 1,500 doctors will work there.

In addition to this, a covid hospital is being built in Krusevac, which should be ready for Saint Nicholas, and which will employ 900 medical workers, Belgrade media reports.
