Even without fans in the stands, Murray’s socially exaggerated performance still showed in the jumbotron, as the Cubs kept alive their tradition of the “seventh inning stretch” for their bizarre and abbreviated 2020 season.
Murray, grabbing a giant teddy bear, yelled at the empty bleachers: “All right, everyone! We want to hear you sing! We want to hear you down to the midfield marker! He then launched into a humorous and enthusiastic performance of “Take Me Out to the Ball Game”.

In non-COVID times, Murray has been a frequent guest on the Wrigley pressbox to sing the traditional baseball anthem to the crowd, including at the 2012 opening game and during the Cubs’ first home game of the World Series since 1945. in October 2016. After the World Series victory team, Murray joined some Cubs to celebrate Saturday night live and met Eddie Vedder, a fellow Cubs, at a house party after the World Series.
