SEC announces new start dates, competition guidelines for non-football fall sports

Football will not be the only fall sport to be played in the SEC this fall, as the conference announced that fall men and women cross country, soccer, volleyball along with men and women’s golf and tennis will compete this fall.

The conference sets out guidelines for each particular sport. The league previously decided that any athlete who chooses not to play this fall due to health and safety concerns will still honor their support point. The SEC had previously postponed all fall sports until Aug. 31.

Sports such as baseball and softball are allowed may have fall practices, but exposure games against other teams are still prohibited.

Georgia volleyball coach Tom Black has expressed his views on the matter.

“We are thrilled by the SEC’s decision to compete this fall and also qualify for Spring game,” Black said. “We want our leadership, in particular our AD Greg McGarity and President Jere W. Morehead , thank you for making this opportunity under complicated circumstances. The testing and care for our student-athletes is remarkable. We are thankful that we can play. ”

The Georgia football season will still begin on September 26, as the Bulldogs open against Arkansas.
