Seahawks release C Joey Hunt and DL Branden Jackson before training camp

The Seahawks made a handful of listed moves on Sunday to comply with Covid-19 altered training camp rules. Seattle, and all other teams, must cut their roster from 90 players to 80.

“data-reactid =” 20 “>Seattle resigned:

RB Patrick Carr

WR Seth Dawkins

G Kahlil McKenzie

DB Josh Norwood

G Jordan Roos

LB Sutton Smith

TE Dominick Wood-Anderson

“data-reactid =” 32 “>And finished:

C Joey Hunt

FROM Branden Jackson

Releasing Hunt and Jackson is a surprise, but releasing both saves Seattle around $ 4.26 million and gives the team around $ 18.7 million in total capitalization space.

Jackson spent three seasons with the Seahawks from 2017-19. He appeared in 36 games and recorded 3.5 sacks. Cutting Jackson saves Seattle $ 2.13 million. Hunt was originally a sixth-round pick in 2016. He appeared in 34 games (11 starts) and served as Seattle’s starting center in 2019 after Justin Britt’s ACL break.

While some might expect these moves to be a precursor to creating room for a corresponding move, say, to sign Jadeveon Clowney, Jackson and Hunt are more likely to be simply victims of Covid-19 altered training camp rules. Seattle must have known that its plans for 2020 did not include any of the players and out of respect, it made sense to cut them off and not give each player a chance to sign with another team. Jackson was sent off for overall depth on the defensive line, and releasing Hunt appears to be a vote of confidence at Ethan Pocic battle center.

Players plan to show up for camp on Tuesday. Here’s a look at this year’s format with the new health and safety protocols agreed to by the NFL and NFLPA.
