On Tuesday, Brandeis became the last local university to announce the cancellation of fall sports due to continued concerns about the coronavirus pandemic.
“The department considered all options and planned extensively to compete this season,” Brandeis athletic director Lauren Haynie told the students in an email. “Based on the federal, state, and campus information and guidelines we have today, the decision not to participate in fall interscholastic athletics was ultimately made with the health, safety, and well-being of our student-athletes, coaches and staff members as our top priority. “
Scott Zolak’s opinion on the Patriots quarterback depth chart: Former patriot and current sports radio host Scott Zolak intervened in post-New England elections for Tom Brady as quarterback during a discussion earlier this week.
For Zolak, sophomore quarterback Jarrett Stidham still tops the depth chart despite the recent free-agent addition of former NFL MVP Cam Newton.
“I think Jarrett will be the starter for the people I talk to, the people I trust: the players, the people connected to the team, the team captains,” predicted Zolak. “The way they talk about Jarrett Stidham and the work he’s done.”

“A lot of people thought Stidham was on a two-week vacation on a wedding tour in Texas,” said Zolak. “She went to a wedding. They spent time with the family. [he] I worked every day … with professional caliber receivers. That’s what they told me.
Stidham, a 2019 fourth-round pick, threw just four passes in his only season in the NFL (one of which was intercepted by Jets safety Jamal Adams and returned for a touchdown).
Still, Zolak believes Newton will take time to acclimatize to the offense led by Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels.
“I just don’t know if Cam Newton is going to do this in 35 days and be ready to go unless it’s a completely different offense that will be 40 percent efficient,” Zolak explained.
At a round table after his decision to sign with New England, Newton alluded to a possible different direction for the Patriots’ offense with his ability compared to Brady’s.
“Coach McDaniels, you can call some things that you have never been able to call now,” Newton noted.
Newton signed a one-year contract with the Patriots in early July after being released by the Panthers in March.
