Schedule and speaker lineup for Night 1


Former United States Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley and Sen. Tim Scott to speak on the first night of the 2020 Republican National Convention.

The Republican National Convention of 2020 kicks off Monday when President Donald Trump makes his case for re-election during an overlapping national crisis.

Many of the speakers, including the president, will deliver remarks from around the country during the four-day event due to the coronavirus pandemic. Parts of the convention will take place on the original site of Charlotte, North Carolina.

Trump will explain his alternatives to the visionary Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden last week in Delaware. The president has pursued his challenger in most swings with swing states as he struggles to contain the coronavirus pandemic.

The night’s keynote speakers will begin at about 8:30 pm ET. CNBC.com will livestream the convention.

C-SPAN, CNN, MSNBC and PBS will show the full 2½ hours of the convention each night. Fox News, CBS, ABC and NBC will watch it until 11 p.m.

A mix of current and previously elected officials and figures in conservative media circles will appear at the convention Monday night. The main lines include Senator Tim Scott, the lone Black GOP senator who has taken a leading role in the party on racism in police work, and Congress Trump Defense Reps. Matt Gaetz and Jim Jordan.

Nikki Haley, the former governor of South Carolina and UN ambassador named as potential president hopefully 2024, will also speak.

  • Charlie Kirk, founder of Turning Point USA, an organization for young conservatives
  • Kim Klacik, a GOP candidate running in a deep blue Maryland congressional district recently released a viral campaign ad
  • Mark and Patricia McCloskey, the St Louis couple who fired cannons at peaceful Black Lives Matter protesters walking past their home
  • Sean Parnell, a Republican congressman in Pennsylvania
  • Andrew Pollack, whose daughter Meadow was murdered in Parkland, Florida, in high school 2018
  • Donald Trump Jr., the son of the president
  • Tanya Weinreis, a coffee owner in Montana who hired a leasing company during the pandemic
