Sasha Banks was not originally reserved to win the WWE Raw Women’s Championship

As noted above, WWE made a ton of changes last week, as it recorded last week and this week’s WWE Monday Night Raw episode.

The original plan at Extreme Rules was for Asuka to retain the Raw Women’s Championship, but earlier the day before the pay per event, the decision was made to extend the match so that they could do so a week later on Raw. That game was recorded last week. The reserve was changed for Banks to win the title this week, but the original plan was for Asuka to go to SummerSlam as champion so she could defend against Shayna Baszler.

Meltzer said: “A lot of changes were made, including things for Asuka and Sasha Banks. All that changed. Originally Asuka was going to defend the title against whoever hurt Kairi and that was, at least on Sunday night or Monday morning last week just before the tapes [and] they broke everything. “

As of now, it’s unclear who’s next for Banks. In recent months they were playing Banks vs. Bayley and that was the plan at one point for SummerSlam, but there was no provocation of dissent between them last night. As for Baszler, it looks like Nia Jax could be his SummerSlam opponent.
