Saroj Khan: Bollywood famous choreographer dies at 71

Saroj Khan was 71 years old

Saroj Khan, one of India’s foremost choreographers, died at the age of 71.

Khan had an illustrious career spanning four decades and choreographed some of Bollywood’s most iconic and popular songs.

His career took off in the late 1980s, when he worked on a host of hits with major stars like Madhuri Dixit and Sridevi.

Khan died of cardiac arrest at the Mumbai city hospital, local media reported.

She was admitted to the hospital last month after she complained of shortness of breath, according to Indian media reports. She tested negative for Covid-19.

He joined the film industry as a child artist.

Her nephew, Manish Jagwani, confirmed to the PTI news agency that Khan died of cardiac arrest.

Born in 1948, her introduction to the film industry was as a children’s artist. In the 1950s, Khan became a backup dancer, appearing in films like Bimal Roy’s Madhumati, where she was choreographed by dance director B Sohanlal, whom she later married.

From here, Khan’s career became that of assistant choreographer until 1974, when he had his shot at the film Geeta Mera Naam.

In the 1980s, Khan became a recognizable name in the industry after he began working with Bollywood stars such as Sridevi Kapoor and Madhuri Dixit, who have danced iconic songs from Hindi movies.

Khan choreographed Sridevi in ​​the song Hawa Hawai from the 1987 blockbuster Mr India, beginning her career as a dance director to watch out for.

Bollywood turned to Twitter to mourn Khan’s death, and many, including superstar Akshay Kumar and director Kunal Kohli, thanked him for his work.

His funeral was held on Friday morning in Mumbai, the PTI news agency reported. She is survived by her son and daughter, Raju and Sukaina Khan.

Saroj Khan, popularly called Masterji (the teacher), got her first big hit in 1987 with the iconic song Hawa Hawai by Mr India.

When Bollywood superstar Sridevi appeared onstage in a sparkly gold dress with blood red lips and a golden crown over her dark curls, she conquered the hearts of the audience.

And with that, Khan became the most wanted choreographer in Bollywood for several decades.

In later years, he made Sridevi and Madhuri Dixit, two of Bollywood’s biggest stars, the dancing queens of India.

In later years, she continued to work with various female stars such as Aishwarya Rai, Kajol, and Urmila Matondkar.

She choreographed thousands of songs, created countless hits, won a dozen prestigious awards, and had millions of fans in India and around the world.

She appeared as a judge on some of the most popular television dance shows and can also be largely attributed to the popularity of the Bollywood dance style in the West.

Generations of Indians have grown up practicing Khan’s steps in front of their televisions and mirrors.

In his tribute, Bollywood star Akshay Kumar said Saroj Khan made the dance look easy. She did. She could make anyone dance, even if they had two left feet.
