On July 10, The Hollywood Reporter dropped his Chatter Awards podcast with Oh to reflect on his career, including his 10-year career in Grey’s Anatomy. Then midway through the conversation, Oh replied how her everyday life changed after the ABC series made its debut and became recognizable to the public.
“It was traumatic,” said Oh. “Everything was different then. Social media was not what it is. People didn’t have phones like now. But the paparazzi, the people looking to fill magazines with trash, were definitely there. “
She continued: “I don’t know if the hunger and the need for fame were the same as now. And that has never been a focus for me. So what people don’t understand, when people really want to be famous, is exceptionally destabilizing when anonymity is lost. And in ways you can’t predict because it’s so specific to each person. “
Oh also shared that she went through therapy to help her adjust to her new life. “For me, it was very difficult and I had to do constant therapy to be able to handle the energy overload,” said Oh. “So it was very stressful. And if it doesn’t fit that way, I totally understand. I just want you to know that I’m available. “
She added: “Who knows! I could be doing something great and it might not work.”
