Today’s COVID-19 update from the County Health and Human Services Agency with data as of March 24.
Vaccination progress:
- About 1.6 million COVID-19 vaccine doses have been delivered in the region, and more than 1.5 million have been logged as administration. This number includes both county residents and those working in San Diego County.
- To date, more than 91,000 county residents, or 1.3..3% of San Diego residents, and older, have been fully vaccinated.
- Overall, more than 853,000 county residents have received at least one shot of the two-dose vaccine. That character is 31.7% of them.
- One dose Johnson and Johnson vaccine recipients are being added to the fully vaccinated San Diego.
- The difference between the dose distributed and the dose used in that vaccination represents what is expected in the next seven days and the dose still needs to be entered into the record system.

State metrics:
- San Diego County’s state-calculated, adjusted case rate is currently 5.5 cases per 100,000 residents. The county is in red tires.
- Currently, the test positivity percentage is 2.4%, placing the county in Tier 3 or Orange tires.
- The county’s health equity metric, which looks at test positivity for areas with the least healthy conditions, is 4.4% and is also in orange tires or tires in.
- While two of the three metrics qualify counties for Orange Tier or Tier 3, the state assigns counties to a more restricted level.
- The Department of Public Health of California evaluates counties on a weekly basis. The next report is scheduled for Tuesday, March 30th.
Community setup eruption:
- On March 24 four new community outbreaks were confirmed. Two in business settings, one in hotel / resort / spa setting and one in retail setting.
- In the last seven days (March 16 to March 24), 18 community outbreaks were confirmed.
- The number of community outbreaks is above seven or more triggers in seven days.
- Outbreaks appear to be exacerbated during the last 14 days, with three or more Covid-19 cases being reported in different households.
Testing:
- As of March 24, 17,596 tests were reported in the county, and the percentage of new positive cases was 1%.
- The 14-day rolling average percentage of positive cases is 2.5%. The target is less than 8.0%.
- The 7-day, daily average of tests is 11,441.
Case, hospitalization and ICU admission:
- On March 240, 210 COVID-19 cases were reported in the county. The total figure for the sector is now 268,627.
- 14,023 or 5.2% of all cases require hospitalization.
- 1,630 or 0.6% of all cases and 11% of hospitalized cases had to be admitted to the intensive care unit.
Mortality:
- March 11 COVID-19 died on March 24. The total number of this area is 3,520.
- Between January 19 and March 23, two women and nine men were killed.
- Of those killed, four were 80 years of age or older, three were in their 70s, one was in their 60s, two were in their 50s and one was in their 40s.
- Ten had underlying medical conditions and one has a medical history left.
