Today’s COVID-19 update from the County Health and Human Services Agency with data as of March 22nd.

Vaccination progress:

  • More than 1.59 million Covid-19 vaccine doses have been delivered in the region, and more than 1.44 million have been logged as administration. This number includes both county residents and those working in San Diego County.
  • Of those vaccinated to date, more than 404,000 county residents, or 1.8..8% of San Diego’s older, are fully vaccinated.
  • In total, more than 823,000 county residents have received at least one shot of the two-dose vaccine. It is 30.6% eligible.
  • One dose Johnson and Johnson vaccine recipients are being added to the fully vaccinated San Diego.
  • The difference between the dose delivered and the dose used in the vaccination represents what is expected in the next seven days and the dose still needs to be entered into the record system.

State metrics:

  • San Diego County’s state-calculated, adjusted case rate is currently 5.5 cases per 100,000 residents. The county is in red tires.
  • Currently, the test positivity percentage is 2.4%, placing the county in Tier 3 or Orange tires.
  • The county’s health equity metric, which looks at test positivity for areas with the least healthy conditions, is 4.4% and is also in orange tires or tires in.
  • While two of the three metrics qualify counties for Orange Tier or Tier 3, the state assigns counties to a more restricted level.
  • The Department of Public Health of California evaluates counties on a weekly basis. The next report is scheduled for Tuesday, March 30th.

Community setup eruption:

  • In the last seven days (March 16 to March 22), 16 community outbreaks were confirmed.

Testing:

  • As of March 22, the county had recorded 11,456 tests, and the percentage of new positive cases was 2%.
  • The 14-day rolling average percentage of positive cases is 2.7%. The target is less than 8.0%.
  • The 7-day, daily average of tests is 11,482.

Case, hospitalization and ICU admission:

  • On March 223, 243 COVID-19 cases were reported in the county. The total figure for this sector is now 268,160.
  • 13,969 or 5.2% of all cases require hospitalization.
  • 1,628 or 0.6% of all cases and 11.7% of hospitalized cases had to be admitted to the intensive care unit.

Mortality:

  • Four new COVID-19s died on March 22. The total number of this area is 3,498.
  • One woman and three men died between March 19 and March 21.
  • One person who died was in his 80s, one was in his 70s, one was in his 60s and one was in his 50s.
  • All had an underlying medical condition.
