While the Galaxy Note 20 is drawing most of the attention towards Samsung right now, the Galaxy Fold 2 is still a highly anticipated device of which we know relatively little.
Although reports from the past week have indicated that the Fold 2 will not be shown at Samsung’s August 5 Unpacked event, a list of specs has just been leaked, courtesy of Korea’s ETNews (via PhoneArena) providing a clearer picture of how the Fold 2 could end.
Galaxy Fold 2 screens
First off, it appears that the Galaxy Fold’s internal and external displays will grow in size. The external will see the biggest difference, going from 4.3 inches in the original model to 6.23 inches in the next, while the main screen will go from 7.3 to 7.7 inches, perhaps thanks to the elimination of the first generation. Fold’s large chamber notch.
Expect the next Fold screen to see an update on technology and size. ETNews reports that Ultra Thin Glass, which first debuted on the Galaxy Z Flip, is coming to the Galaxy Fold 2, as well as a maximum refresh rate of 120Hz, like what’s in the Galaxy S20 series and soon, also in the Galaxy Note 20. It is unknown whether the new Note’s long-lasting LTPO technology, which enables a fully dynamic refresh rate and therefore more efficient power consumption, will be included in the Fold 2.
Galaxy Fold 2 specifications and battery
In terms of power and memory, Samsung could go for the Snapdragon 865 Plus, a new chipset recently unveiled by Qualcomm, which offers slightly better performance than the ordinary 865 in most Android flagship products. According to reports, that will be combined with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of non-expandable storage; A 512GB option can also be offered.
The Fold 2 will reportedly carry separate batteries for each side, combining for a total capacity of 4,365 mAh. This is a bit surprising considering the original Galaxy Fold has a 4,380 mAh battery.
Galaxy Fold 2 cameras
ETNews reports that Samsung will skip the primary 108-megapixel sensor for the next Fold, opting instead for a more conventional 12 MP main lens, another 12 MP camera for ultra-wide shots, and a 64 MP telephoto lens that will likely employ clipping. to focus. This is exactly the same battery that you will find in the Galaxy S20 base. There will also be 10 MP front-facing cameras on top of both screens, so you can take selfies regardless of whether the phone is folded or not.
They’re not the only Samsung foldable that come
While the Galaxy Fold 2 looks appealing from these leaked specs, it’s worth noting that it’s far from the only foldable Samsung to offer. There’s also the Galaxy Z Flip 5G, which we hope to see at the Unpacked event in a few weeks, as well as a cheaper version of the Fold 2, tentatively called the Galaxy Fold Lite, of which we know the least. This model could replace the Fold 2’s external display with a notification strip and also include fewer cameras.
Add it all up and, well, that’s a bunch of foldable Samsung phones, and a busy second half of the year for Galaxy-branded devices. We hope to take a look at some of them at Samsung’s presentation on August 5.
