It seems that Sacha Baron Cohen is in it again. The notorious provocateur and satirist, who has built a reputation for joking with real people while disguising himself as his projects, has apparently made his latest joke at a far-right rally. Baron Cohen reportedly crashed into the far-right militia group known as the Washington Three Percenters, leading the rally in a racist song before it nearly caused riot and was chased by the crowd.
Washington state news outlet The Olympian reports that Baron Cohen crashed the rally of the far-right militia group Washington Three Percenters while in disguise.
In a YouTube video taken from the rally, the comedian can be seen wearing overalls and a thick ginger beard as he steps onto the stage of the “March for our Rights 3” rally to lead the crowd of around 500 people in a racist song. The song urged listeners to attack liberals, CNN, the World Health Organization, and included shocking lyrics such as “Obama what we have to do, inject him with the Wuhan flu” and “cut them off like the saudis. ” The crowd, which had signs like “Stop tyranny, stand up for freedom,” cheered Baron Cohen’s anti-Semitic lyrics and jabs (the “you know who”) and anti-Asian taunts (“nuke ’em like we used to do”).
It’s a classic Baron Cohen gimmick, and the comedian reportedly made a large late anonymous donation from California, according to an event organizer. Cohen also had his own security on hand to prevent someone from logging off while on stage, and to ensure his safety if attendees noticed.
And apparently, the crowd became wise on the spot, but not before they were deeply humiliated by the long-recorded song and a separate instance where Baron Cohen slipped under a different costume. Baron Cohen was reportedly expelled from the demonstration but left safely in an ambulance waiting to evacuate him.
It goes without saying that he has angered the right people. The Three Percentives of Washington State denounced Baron Cohen on his Facebook page while the City Councilor for Yelm James Connor Blair He also condemned the trick on his personal Facebook page, writing,
Disguised as a PAC in Southern California, he paid for the stage setup and musical entertainment. He took the stage disguised as the lead singer for the latest band, singing a bunch of hateful, obnoxious, and racist bullshit. His safety prevented event organizers from taking him off stage or taking power from the generator. After the crowd realized what he was saying, and turned to him, his security rushed to the stage and evacuated them to a private ambulance that was hired to be his escape transport. It was a montage and a blow to the faces of the great people who organized this event ”.
It’s unclear if Baron Cohen’s latest prank is part of his Who is America? show, which aired its first season on Showtime in 2018, or is part of a new movie for the comedian. In any case, it’s always funny when Baron Cohen appears out of nowhere to prowl the alternative right.
