Four years after Ryan Gosling jazz returned to our hearts La La Land, the hunk returns: According to Deadline, Gosling will lead Joe and Anthony Russo’s adaptation of the spy novel Mark Greaney The gray man. Chris Evans will be a co-star. The film will be Netflix’s most financially ambitious film to date. By deadline: “The intention here is to create a new franchise with a James Bond scale level and a budget of over $ 200 million.”
The gray man the book series followed Court Gentry, an independent assassin and former CIA agent. Brad Pitt was set to star in James Gray directing in 2011; in 2015, post–Mad Max: Fury Road, the role had to be modified for Charlize Theron. In Russo’s film, Gentry (Gosling) is hunted around the world by former CIA colleague Lloyd Hansen (Evans). Anthony Russo compared it to the brothers’ work in Captain America: winter soldier. “The film is a real heads-up between those two great actors representing two different versions of the CIA, in what it can be and what it can do,” he told Deadline. “For those who were fans of Captain America: winter soldier, we are moving to that territory in a more real environment.
