Russia Completes Human Trials of Covid-19 Vaccine


After Brazil was the first emerging market to obtain a test drive for the coronavirus vaccine from the University of Oxford, its Russia is the first to complete human trials.

Elena Smolyarchuk, chief investigator at the Russian Center for Clinical Research on Medicines at Sechenov University, told TASS Newswire on Sunday that human trials for the vaccine had been completed and those test patients would be discharged soon.

“The investigation was completed and showed that the vaccine is safe. The volunteers will be discharged on July 15 and 20,” Smolyarchuk said in the report.

There was no other information on when this vaccine would go into commercial production.

Russia had allowed clinical trials of two forms of a possible coronavirus vaccine developed by the Gamaleya National Center for Research on Epidemiology and Microbiology. The first was held at the Burdenko Military Hospital. The other vaccine was administered to test patients at Sechenov First Moscow State Medical University.

About 20 people volunteered for the injection.

After receiving the injection, the volunteers were asked to quarantine the hospital for 28 days.

Previously, the results of tests of the Covid-19 vaccine conducted on a group of volunteers in Russia showed that they were developing immunity to the coronavirus, but the article did not discuss what the drug really is.

Russia has reported 719,449 cases of the new SARS coronavirus. Some 11,188 people died from complications caused by Covid-19, the disease caused by the new SARS.

There are at least 21 vaccines currently undergoing testing worldwide, according to the World Health Organization. Each country and each laboratory is taking a different approach to find the right solution to prevent the virus from taking over the world right now.

Meanwhile, in Moscow this weekend, public health officials removed the requirements to wear face masks while outside. Masks and gloves are required when traveling on public transportation, going to a medical center, or shopping.
