The vaccine doses must be stored at a constant temperature of -80 degrees Celsius, which is why they were brought in a van specially designed for the transport of pharmaceutical and refrigerated products, belonging to the Polish company SL Express.
SL Express cars can be recognized by the penguins drawn on the body and are designed, according to the company’s official website, cited by Digi24, to transport products at controlled temperatures from -30 to +35 degrees. However, because the COVID vaccine requires a much lower temperature, the doses are kept on dry ice.
SL Express is a company specialized in the transport of sensitive goods, and has a fleet of 99 vans, capable of transporting these products throughout Europe, but also in areas of Asia, such as Kazakhstan or the Asian part of Russia.
