The 30-year-old woman who died within hours of giving birth to a perfectly healthy child at Caracal Hospital had another child. Cristina and her husband were anxiously awaiting the birth of their second baby. The woman had a hemorrhage after giving birth and then suffered cardiorespiratory arrest. The woman’s father accuses the doctors of malpractice, but they reject the accusations.
The woman had no problems with the pregnancy and thought the delivery would be easy, her family says. She was admitted to the Caracal municipal hospital, where on Thursday night she gave birth to a small child with no health problems. She herself passed the good news to her family.
“She gave birth, posted photos on Facebook, four photos of the child,” said Florinel Calistru, Cristina’s father.
But after a few hours complications arose. Cristina had an intrauterine hemorrhage. The attending physician says the patient received proper treatment, but the bleeding did not stop. In these circumstances, the only solution was hysterectomy, that is, the operation to remove the uterus, to which the patient agreed. The situation has gotten even worse.
“When they put her on the table for surgery, she went into cardiac arrest,” says Gheorghița Trușcă, a doctor at Caracal Hospital.
The decision was made for the emergency transfer to Craiova County Hospital. The young woman never got there. She died in an ambulance after doctors tried to resuscitate her for 30 minutes. Cristina gave birth just 7 hours ago.
“They kept her in agony until 2, 2 and something like that. If she died at 3, near Craiova, they kept her in agony for so many hours, ma’am,” says the patient’s father.
Caracal’s doctor denies allegations of malpractice
The doctor who treated Cristina at the Caracal hospital says she fought hard to save her life.
“You must know that it is a great trauma for me too. I did everything I could for her. And nothing went wrong. If her body resisted and did not make that cardiac arrest, things evolved much better”, defends Gheorghița Trușcă. doctor at Caracal Hospital.
The doctor confirms that he did not have all the necessary equipment.
“All of our ventilators were placed in Covid Positive patients, Covid Positive in very serious condition. It was not possible for another patient to come to the ventilator,” added the medical staff member.
The family filed a criminal complaint against Caracal’s doctor. The grieving relatives await the results of the autopsy, to be able to remove the body of the young woman from the morgue.
