The mayor of Marghita, Marcel Sas-Adăscăliţii, turned to social assistance to clean up the town, under the threat that those who do not respect work hours risk losing social assistance, writes ebihoreanul.ro.

Welfare recipients who can work have picked up trash from city parks, swept streets and parking lots, and cleaned ditches and gutters. In addition, together with the employees of the City Council, they sanitized and made repairs in the buildings of the city, such as gyms or social houses.

“The beneficiaries of social assistance worked mainly in cleaning the green areas of the city. We have developed a strict schedule for each beneficiary, and those who have not followed it bear the consequences. If a social worker has five days a month to work and shows up in just four days, he loses social assistance, ”the mayor told ebihoreanul.ro.

In December, of the 108 beneficiaries of Marghita’s social aid, 18 were able to work, but only 16 complied with the program imposed by the City Council, so two will stop receiving state aid. “In November the same thing happened, two people were left without money,” added Sas-Adascalii.

The mayor also said that in the next period he will make verifications in the case of those assistants who cannot work, because their number is curiously high.

In his first term, after running as an independent, Marcel Sas-Adăscăliţii also made decisions about the transparency of the Marghita City Council. The Town Hall meetings are broadcast live on Facebook and also on the social network, the mayor publishes daily news about his activity and that of his colleagues. In addition, all his messages have a Hungarian translation, taking into account that in Marghita almost half of the inhabitants are Hungarian.
