The driver caught the attention of a police team on mission because he was parked at 3:00 at night, on a boulevard in Iaşi, with the car damage started. Officers approached him to see if everything was okay and found that he was very agitated. They asked him to get out of the car, but the man preferred to leave and from that moment a dangerous chase began through the streets of the city.
7-kilometer chase with police on the track
The police called for reinforcements. Five other crews joined them on the way, including from the Gendarmerie. About 30 shots were fired.
The driver and the police pursued him for almost 7 kilometers.
The chase ended when the driver lost control of the steering wheel and hit a pole. The man wanted to abandon his car at the time and flee, but the police managed to catch him.
Man’s behavior is an enigma
“The police brought a 33-year-old man to the Emergency Department from a traffic accident. He had several bruises and wounds, a contusion of the right shoulder, a contusion possibly triggered to the left shoulder, no foreign body retention, several facial contusions, ”said Dr. Diana Cimpoeșu, head of UPU-SMURD Iași.
However, he did not require hospitalization. Tests carried out immediately after the accident show that the driver had not consumed alcohol. However, it remains to be seen if it may be drug use, test results are still awaited. His gesture seems, for the moment, inexplicable.
“I understand that he had stated that he was being followed, after which he left in a hurry. If he was scared, if he was really loaded on his shoulders, if it was just a follow-up idea, on a delusional, psychotic basis, there are several lines to continue ”, said the psychiatrist Ovidiu Alexinschi of the Socola Institute.
During the chase, the man collided with a police car and slightly injured one of the officers. A criminal case for indignation was opened, a file that was taken by the Military Prosecutor’s Office, considering that even one of the gendarmes who was following the fugitive driver fired shots.
