In the first stage, CSM Reșița will stay, while the Metaloglobus – Pandurii Târgu Jiu and FC U Craiova – Ripensia Timișoara matches were postponed after team Gorj and team Bănie confirmed COVID-19 cases in the groups.
The 2020-2021 League 2 season will be played in a new format, with regular season, followed by the playoffs, consisting of the top six teams and two playoff groups.
The regular season of the competition proposes 21 stages, each team will play only once with the other participants. In the second part of the championship, the play-offs will be played back and forth, while the play-out maintains the regular season system.
At the end of the second part of the championship, the first two classified in the play-off will be promoted directly, after the third and fourth place will play prey with the 13th and 14th places in League 1. In the play-out, the group A will contain seven teams, in time whose group B will consist of eight teams. From the first group, the last two classified will descend, and from B the teams in sixth, seventh and eighth places will go to League 3. Teams finishing fifth in both groups will play a hold / relegation hold.
