The leadership of the LEI Maramureş launched an internal investigation after the appearance in the public space of some images filmed in the intervention in the Ardusat commune of the local police and the Service for Weapons, Explosives and Toxic Substances, accompanied by fighters from the Action Service Special, sequences in which an old man appears who falls to the ground after being hit by a masked fighter.

“The direction of the Inspection ordered the verification of the specific way in which the intervention of the police was carried out in the execution of the house search warrants, and upon completion, if necessary, legal measures will be ordered” the spokesperson from LEI Maramureş, Ionela Cozma.

The intervention of the mixed police teams took place on December 31, in a case targeting several people from the Ardusat commune suspected of being involved in the sale of fireworks that were to be used for New Year’s Eve.

During the intervention of the special troops, almost 200 people were in the street, the majority without protective mask and being hostile to the intervention forces.

Initial news

Dozens of Roma inhabitants of the Ardusat commune, right on the border between Maramureș and Satu Mare counties, took to the streets after masked people from the Maramure police and weapons, explosives and toxic substances searched the houses of some people suspected of illegally possessing and selling fireworks, reports Baiamare24.

People gathered without following any rules of the pandemic, yelled and shouted as much as they could, asking for explanations from the masked men. Also, some of them started pushing each other trying to get closer to law enforcement.

300 kilograms of pyrotechnic articles were seized

“The searches continued on the basis of orders issued by the Baia Mare Court, and the villagers were kept at a distance by masked men. 300 kg of fireworks worth 9,000 lei were found at the home of a local. today they were carried out with the support of forensic experts, police from the Canine Group and fighters from the Special Actions Service ”, says the IPJ Maramureș statement.

The struggle between gypsies makes law in the northwest of the country

Disputes between Roma are common in the two northwestern counties of the country. For example, in May 2020, the police, gendarmerie and army intervention troops intervened in a supermarket in Baia Mare, where a violent incident between several Roma had broken out, using swords and knives. The fight between the two Roma clans broke out in the parking lot of the market, after which some people fled to the shop, most with swords and knives. The investigation revealed that it was a showdown.

In February, according to local media, members of two clans beat each other, threatened to kill and used tear gas on Unirii Boulevard in Satu Mare, right in front of the County Police Inspectorate.
