President-elect Joe Biden delivered his first speech in the United States capital on the Lincoln Memorial esplanade Tuesday night. He dedicated this moment, in which he spoke about memory and healing, to the more than 400,000 victims that the pandemic left alone in the United States.
Joe Biden walked the esplanade with his wife, Jill. He was also accompanied by future Vice President Kamala Harris, who arrived with her husband.
Joe Biden began his speech by thanking a Michigan nurse, Lori Marie Key, who sang Amazing grace in front of the Lincoln Memorial.
“If there are angels in heaven, they are nurses. We know from the experience of our families what you have done for us, the courage you have shown and the pain you have absorbed from others. So thank you. Thank you,” said Joe Biden .
“To heal, we must remember. Sometimes memories are painful, but that’s the only way we can heal. It is important to do this as a nation. That is why we are here today. Between dusk and dawn, let the lights shine. in the dark along the sacred pool and remember all those we have lost, ”Biden said, referring to the more than 400,000 Americans who -Losted their lives from the coronavirus pandemic.
Behind him, 400 lights were lit along the pool of water at the Lincoln Memorial, and gospel singer Yolanda Adams sang Hallelujah.
