The energy ministry could decide after January 15 whether to intervene through GEO to extend the period in which the population can opt for a power contract in the competitive market, according to Mediafax.
The announcement was made in RFI by Energy Minister Virgil Popescu, since the market has been liberalized since Friday, January 1, and many people have not been informed in advance and therefore do not know what to do.
Virgil Popescu says what the Ministry of Energy can do in the matter related to the liberalization of the electricity market: “We as a ministry will wait until January 15 to see exactly how it works, after which, if necessary, we will even intervene legislatively “. to help people find the best and cheapest electricity price solutions and not be automatically switched to a costly universal service market, leave it there until they choose, but on the contrary, I would prefer people to pass directly to the competitive market, which is cheaper and later if they do not agree with the providers, if certain things do not happen, to be in the universal service market.
The Energy Minister considers that a possible postponement of the liberalization of the energy market is not a solution: “I do not think that postponing the liberalization for six months is a solution, because after six months it will be exactly the same.” to opt (…). Not only until January 31 (…), I’m talking about the extension of this deadline, possibly, it could be until March 31, to look for a supplier in the competitive market ”.
It affirms that ANRE is the one that can decide a possible extension of the term to opt for another type of electricity contract, but does not exclude government intervention: “Normally, this decision corresponds to ANRE, they set this date as January 31.” That is why I said that we are waiting until January 15 to see exactly how many contracts have been made in the competitive market, to have an overview. I am convinced that there will not be many contracts, it is obvious. , but I want to see exactly how it worked and if ANRE doesn’t do it, obviously we can do it through GEO ”.
Virgil Popescu says that so far he has not received any notification from the electricity supplier (Thursday morning, 9.15 am), related to the liberalization of the market: “I confess that I have not received any notification from the electricity supplier so far. I am also subscribed in Bucharest to a provider on the regulated market. To date, I have received absolutely nothing. “
The Minister of Energy affirms that a client that already has a contract in the competitive market will not be affected by the liberalization of the market: “No, if it has it in the competitive market, it remains in the competitive market for the entire term of the contract, it does not expire, then another must be concluded. “
Virgil Popescu states that an electricity contract can be changed “normally” online: “Depending on each supplier. Normally, it can be changed online. If I remember, I also signed a contract online, but until after that, I had to download it at home, sign it and upload it to the electricity supplier’s computer application. “
