Klaus Iohannis announced this Thursday, in a statement in the Cotroceni Palace, that the situation is good after the reopening of the school, with more than two million children who have returned to study in schools. However, the president specified that there are also around 6,000 schools where education is taught in the yellow scenario.
The head of state held a conversation with Sorin Cîmpeanu and other representatives of the Ministry of Education about the reopening of schools and investments in education through the National Recovery and Resilience Plan.
“We looked at the schools in Romania that physically reopened for children in the second semester and I can tell you that the situation is good. There are more than 10,000 physically functioning schools, with students present in the school. There are around 6,000 educational units, more than 6,000 units, operating in the yellow scenario, which means that a significant part of the children physically attend school, but some remain in the online system. In summary, more than 2 million students physically resumed school on Monday February 8. This represents 70% of the total number of students in Romania. The others, who remained online, continue their studies in this way. All of course, we want the localities that are on the yellow stage or on the red stage, or even some in quarantine, have a positive evolution and leave these stages, going to the green stage ”, said Klaus Iohannis.
The president added that “we have to be realistic, the pandemic is not over.”
“Even if, fortunately, restrictive measures have been taken to reduce the number of patients in succession, to reduce the number of new infections, we cannot, sadly, say that we have escaped the pandemic.” In addition, it is extremely important to respect the restrictions imposed, to be responsible and now we really have a very serious reason as well. They are the children of Romania, to whom we have to offer school, school in physical format. The better we respect the restrictions, the fewer cases of new diseases we will have and the better the school will be in physical format ”, stressed the head of state.
