Four years have passed since the death of Cristina Ortiz “La Veneno” and the case is requested to be reopened to know the truth, the Spanish press writes. The death of transgender artist Cristina Ortiz, known by the stage name “La Veneno” (The Venom), remains shrouded in mystery four years after her death. The life of the star is in the public’s attention more than ever thanks to the series about her, released this year in Spain.
Criminologist Óscar Tarruella has been working for months to unravel the mystery of Cristina Ortiz’s death, while a Madrid court is looking for her last boyfriend, Alin, to try him for a violent robbery that occurred in 2018. For four years, Cristina Ortiz Rodríguez, a of the most popular representatives of the LGBT community in Spain, died in the Hospital de la Paz after a three-day coma. The death of the star was shrouded in mystery from the beginning, writes the Spanish press.
The series on the life of the star, recommended by the Deputy Prime Minister of Spain
The series produced by Atresmedia, directed by Javier Calvo and Javier Ambrossi, has become so popular that, the other day, Deputy Prime Minister Pablo Iglesias wrote on Twitter: “Last night, I just saw ‘Veneno’. It makes you cry, laugh, “Remembering, empathizing, but above all, it makes you understand the wild pain it caused then and now to trans people, simply because they are themselves. I hope that many young people see the show.”
While the figure of Cristina remains in the public eye due to television, a court in Madrid wants to hear Alin Bogdan Călin (a Romanian who was her last boyfriend) for a violent robbery. The well-known forensic scientist Óscar Tarruella published a few days ago an explanatory video on his YouTube channel, where he comments on some of the mistakes that the police investigation would have made in the case of Cristina’s death. Alin, who lived in the same house as the star in his last months of life, did not appear in a trial in which he was accused of violent robbery, committed in Madrid in 2018.

The movie of the death of a star
For the criminologist Tarruella, the events unfolded as follows: on November 4, the neighbors claimed to hear loud knocks and screams in the house of Cristina and her boyfriend Alin. On November 5, Cristina Ortiz herself called 112 at 2.49 in the morning to report that she was threatened by her ex-boyfriend. When the police showed up at the house, Cristina told them that the presence of the agents was not necessary and they left without asking what it was about. According to Tarruella, “this is a serious protocol error that must be applied in cases of domestic violence, because Cristina could have been threatened by someone inside the house and would not even have opened the door. The police could have talked to a neighbor and even asked for a search warrant. The police left. Her boyfriend, Alin, would declare that he had been inside with her at the time. “
On November 5, at 7:00 p.m., the neighbors, according to statements given at the police headquarters, again heard loud blows and screams at Cristina’s house. That same day, at night, at 11:30 p.m., according to Alin, Cristina was found at home with blood and bruises on the living room sofa and explained that she had fallen, so Alin went down to the bar on the ground floor to ask for help. “There are several contradictions here, on the one hand, the owner of the bar who came up to help Cristina says he was conscious, he recognized it and then he fainted. Alin said he took her off the couch and took her to bed, but the witness didn’t see him do it, “adds Tarruella, who wonders:” Why didn’t Alín call the ambulance and go to the owner of the bar? ? ‘
Police errors
The ambulance arrived half an hour later and, at 1:22 in the morning of November 6, Cristina was admitted to Hospital La Paz in Madrid with a severe head injury, which ultimately led to her death. . His arrival at the hospital did not end the controversy either. At 9:30 p.m. that day, Cristina Ortiz’s family arrives in Madrid and, after visiting her in the hospital, goes to the Tetuán district police station to file a complaint. Meanwhile, “the hospital report says that he fell in the bathroom and caused the injuries he presented.” “However, the ambulance report does not mention anything about it, nor were there any toxic substances in Cristina’s blood,” says Tarruella.
As a result of the complaint, on Monday, November 7, the Police went to Cristina Ortiz’s house at 12:17 p.m. Police found the light on and the yala on the front door broken, but did not take fingerprints. An hour later, Alin appears at the police station and asks to testify voluntarily, he remembers many things, but not all, the Spanish journalists write. Alin Bogdan Călin, Cristina’s alleged partner, told the police station that “they have been dating Cristina Ortíz Rodríguez for two and a half years.” The police asked him what happened the day before the accident, on November 5, when there was a strong fight between the two that morning.

“I didn’t kill her”
Alin Bogdan Călin said: “Cristina had given him 40 or 50 euros to retrieve a mobile phone that she had given to an acquaintance to borrow his money.” He would not have used the money to recover the phone, instead, he spent it playing “nuts”, although he could not specify where it was played “because he smoked a cigarette with hashish and barely remembers what happened.” The fight supposedly started because “when he returned with Cristina, smoking and penniless,” she began to argue with him, so, very angry, she asked him to leave the house, while calling the police to scare him. .
Alin said he slept at the door of the house until 8 a.m., when Cristina allowed him to enter. Then, at 12 noon, the man went out to sell scrap metal found in a dumpster and returned around 4 or 5 in the afternoon. After spending the afternoon with Cristina, Alin left the house again and “returned at 11:30 pm to find her conscious and lying on the sofa, her clothes stained with blood and a blow to the head.”
“He had taken pills and fell into the bathroom”
When Alin asked him what had happened, the answer would have been: “He had taken a lot of pills and fell in the bathroom.” Then, the man asked his neighbor, Ana, the owner of the bar “La Tobateña” for help, who called the ambulance. Cristina was transferred to Hospital La Paz in Madrid, and Alin said he tried to go see her “but outside visiting hours.”
The same day that Alin made statements to the police station, the agents received a phone call from a neighbor, who assured that “Cristina Ortiz Rodríguez’s boyfriend (Alin Bogdan Călin) left his house very vigilantly, forgetting he was all over the street and threw in a large plastic garbage bag and a clothesline. The person insisted that “this is very rare, since both Cristina and her boyfriend never throw their garbage in the container, but they always throw it from the terrace directly into the street.”
Later, the Tetouan police went to the scene and managed to find the bag. The list of objects of interest found in that bag was: “Three cardboard boxes with the drug Trankimazin 2 gr. Two bottles of Trankimazine 2 gr (empty). Two 50 mg tranxilium tablets. A letter (one envelope and seven pages handwritten on both sides) written by Cristina Ortiz Rodríguez from the Alcalá-Meco prison to Călin Alin Bogdan “.” Why wasn’t everything in the bag, such as clothes, searched? And why is the content of that letter not transcribed? “Asks the criminologist studying the file. Why did your boyfriend want to get rid of these assets in those same days and not wait to see if his girlfriend would recover before launching something as personal as a letter?

What the witnesses said: frequent fights and scandals
Several neighbors of Cristina Rodríguez were called to testify at the police station. The first, Lidia Esther Britez, a neighbor of the couple, who said that “since she lives on the farm, there have been frequent fights and noises from the neighbors on the 1st floor, where a transsexual woman named Cristina (known as La Veneno) lives. together with her boyfriend of Romanian origin ”. This woman also spoke of another fight, which would have occurred on November 4, around 8:30 p.m., when “screams and blows were heard so strong that even the walls of her house were shaking.” The next day, the discussion was heard by the same neighbors, and Lydia Esther’s husband, José Fabián Rodríguez García, declared in the same sense.
After Cristina’s death, Alin refused to leave the house and even started selling her ex-partner’s clothes and belongings. Finally, Cristina’s family paid the Romanian 7,000 euros, according to speculation at the time, to leave the house, which he later sold. Alin would have used that money to return to Romania. However, as the aforementioned publication has learned, the Romanian has a restraining order because he did not appear in court when he was called to testify for a violent robbery committed in Madrid in 2018. The next measure that the court will take will issue an arrest warrant If she does not appear.

Official contradictions
The star died accidentally according to the official autopsy carried out by forensic scientist Miguel Ángel Castillo Hernández. “There is not a single contusion in the whole body, except for a wound (which was sutured in the operating room) in the right supraciliary region or in the right frontal region caused by a fall,” Castillo Hernández wrote in his report. This contradicts the report made by the prestigious forensic doctor Luis Frontela, led by the star’s sister, María Josefa Ortiz.
Interestingly, the official autopsy also contradicts the report made by forensic scientists after they visited the star in hospital. In this report, some officers write that “the woman was in a coma, and on her legs and at the height of both knees she had several bruises of different sizes.” Furthermore, the report shows that “possible biological remains of the perpetrator of the possible attack” could be found on the left and right hands. This report thus indicated that the star would have tried to defend himself from an attack, write the Spanish journalists, in contradiction to the official version of the forensic doctor. The report of the Forensic Police Brigade states the following: “Cristina had symptoms of being the victim of an attack, given the injuries she presented.”
