Prof. univ. Dr Adrian Badea, president of AOSR (Romanian Academy of Scientists), spoke on Thursday about budget cuts, a USR action “for the image” and problems related to salaries.
Adrian Badea was, on Thursday, Răzvan Dumitrescu’s guest on the “What’s Happening” program on DCNewsTV.
The government has cut the budget of the Academy of Scientists. The proposal came from USR PLUS and Prime Minister Florin Cîțu approved it.
This is what Prof. Univ. Said about this situation. Dr. Adrian Badea during the show:
“I tell you honestly: for a long time I thought it was an RSU action because of the image, because you have to know that this is not the first year that our budget has been cut. The budget was also cut completely last year. If we remember, last year the budget was approved assuming responsibility. In the budget presented for amendments, the Academy had an amount that is traditional between 6 and 8 million and that represents 1.5 percent of the Romanian Academy’s budget and 0.003 percent of the Romanian budget. So, They saved 0.003 percent! It is absurd to think that this was the cause (not saving). Last year I thought the USR was proud to pass amendments. And they introduced several amendments, and the then government was the Orban government, which cut the budget to zero in five minutes.
With what consequences?
We had 32 employees. His number is zero today. I did not pay salaries in December 2019, when people were working. But you know that this salary is paid from next year’s budget. So we don’t pay him, we still owe it to our colleagues who worked.
I thought it was a source of pride. We had a meeting with the Prime Minister and he told us that it was a misunderstanding, a confusion, but we will solve this problem. We were probably too gullible. It was not resolved in any way. Not even last year. Furthermore, this year a practically identical scenario followed. In the budget discussed by the Ministry of Public Finance we figure the amount of 8.9 million lei. The budget was discussed in various stages in the Government. It happened without any observation. On the last Friday, in the last point, in several, someone from USR made this proposal, which was accepted. And not that a piece was cut, no, it was cut completely! Zero! It is clear that it is, in the end, a deliberate action to abolish this academy.
And, if you allow me to do a bit of history, we have come across things like this before, because now this Academy is governed by Law 31 of 2007, a law that was approved by Parliament since then practically unanimously, I think there were two abstentions . Mr. Basescu promulgated the law. Article 1 of our law establishes that the Romanian Academy of Scientists is the successor and sole legatee of the Romanian Academy of Sciences, founded in 1935 by a group of valuable scientists, led by Constantin Angelescu, who was an exceptional doctor, creator of schools . He was, at the same time, an extraordinarily important liberal politician. So in a way our academy has liberal roots. And the liberals, today, want to abolish us!“Said Adrian Badea.
