The government is discussing the date of the parliamentary elections on Thursday. Prime Minister Ludovic Orban said at the beginning of the meeting that it could only be December 6.

These are two government decisions, one on the date of the 2020 parliamentary elections and the other on the calendar of the elections.

“The government is obliged, both by the Constitution and by the law on parliamentary elections, to make this decision. According to the law, this decision must be taken at least 90 days before the date of the elections. We must take into account the constitutional provisions , which, on the one hand, say when the term of the current Parliament ends, that is, on December 21. We must also take into account the constitutional provision by which the President must convene the elected Parliament within a maximum period of 20 days to starting from the date of the elections. Corroborating all these provisions, it is clear that the date of the elections can only be December 6, “said Orban.
