Two climbers, a man and a woman, were found dead Saturday night in the Bucegi massif by mountain rescuers who had been asked to intervene by calling 112.
The man was one of the best electronic engineers in the country and a researcher at the University of Tampere, Finland. He died while trying to save his partner, a woman from Ilfov County, according to adevul.ro.
The 47-year-old woman and the 52-year-old man died on January 2, on one of the most dangerous mountain trails in Romania, Brâna Mare to Morarului, in the Bucegi massif. They were both experienced in climbing, but ventured into the mountains in bad weather, with blizzards and fog.
The woman fell off a cliff and the man wanted to save her and also slipped. Before, he called 112.
„Mountain rescuers arrived at the scene of the accident, where, sadly, they found two dead. It seems that the climber tried to reach the girl and also fell”, The representatives of Salvamont Prahova announced in a post on the Facebook page.
The two arrived in Busteni on Saturday, parked near the Gura Diham chalet and headed into the mountains by an extremely difficult route even in summer and not recommended for tourists in winter.
