Quaestor Eduard Miritescu was temporarily appointed head of the Romanian police, after Liviu Vasilescu stepped down from the leadership of the Romanian police, Interior Minister Marcel Vela said, according to Agerpres.

“In order to guarantee continuity in the management act of this important institution of the Ministry of the Interior, we decided that the Deputy Inspector General, Police Quaestor Eduard Miritescu, from his position, temporarily exercise command of the Romanian Police until the appointment of an officer to assume this role and responsibility.

I was in no rush to appoint a replacement for the Romanian Police Inspector General today because I want to identify, together with the team from the Ministry of the Interior, the most suitable person to be able to thoroughly reform the Romanian Police Inspector General. it could continue with police training programs and be able to exercise an appropriate management act for an institution of European level that provides security and confidence to citizens. I assure you that, in the shortest possible time, this interim will be exhausted at the level of the Romanian Police leadership ”, declared Marcel Vela.

Romanian Police Chief Liviu Vasilescu announced on Tuesday that he is resigning. The announcement was made unexpectedly, at the end of a press conference organized at the Ministry of the Interior, which had as its theme the largest hashish capture in the history of the Romanian Police, worth tens of millions of euros.
