The new mayor of Bacău, Lucian Stanciu Viziteu (USR), will call a local referendum to impose anti-Covid measures, but also to establish community development strategies. The population will be consulted during the parliamentary elections.

The local referendum is a premiere for the city of Bacau. Mayor Lucian Stanciu Viziteu announced that, on Friday, the Bacău City Council validated the proposal for the first time in the period after December when citizens are directly consulted on the implementation of measures and projects with impact on the community.

According to the mayor, the referendum, which will be held in parallel to the parliamentary elections, will contain three questions.

prior to It is related to the use of funds from the local budget for the local executive to take additional measures, but without coercion, to comply with the norms to combat the pandemic. These aim to reduce the number of infections in Bacău, in order to reopen economic, educational and cultural activities.

The second question it is related to the need to systematize the neighborhoods of Bacău. It is about freeing the public domain from constructions like concrete garages and creating new parking lots, green spaces and playgrounds for children. The third question refers to the opportunity to allocate funds for the completion of the Municipal Hospital.

“The initiative to organize this referendum is in accordance with the principle of decisional transparency. No matter how many measures the political decision-maker takes, be it an executive of the mayor’s office, without the support of the community, they do not have a purpose that produces added value. The principle will be the basis of my mandate. Also for the first time in Bacău, starting next year, the participatory budget will be introduced. Thus, projects coming from the citizens will be financed”Mayor Lucian Stanciu Viziteu announced on Facebook.

The mayor also announced that in the next period the municipality’s proposals for the referendum will be presented within an information campaign.
