Novak Djokovic, no. 1 ATP, was disqualified from the US Open on Sunday, where he was the main favorite, after a controversial gesture made in the match with the Spanish Pablo Carreño Busta in the eighth round of the US tournament, reports digisport.ro.
At the end of a match, the Serb pulled a ball from his pocket and hit it with his rocket, sending it to the back of the field in an apparent gesture of nervous discharge, without wanting to hit anyone. However, the referee was not impressed and admonished him to dive.
After an argument with the main referee, Soeren Friemel, the Serbian was excluded from the tournament.
“There were players excluded for less,” said Darren Cahill. New York Times. “I think the right decision has been made,” added the Australian coach.
