The loss by the PNL of all the important ministries in the negotiations with USR PLUS and UDMR, and the transfer of the position of head of the Prime Minister’s Chancellery to those of PLUS blew up the party. Ludovic Orban is accused of giving up all the interests of the party for his personal interest, that of being president of the Chamber of Deputies.
According to some sources in the USR PLUS leadership, Orban would have participated only in the concrete division of the ministries, without the party’s delegated negotiating team and those of USR PLUS and UDMR were also shocked by the moment when the liberals, of Rightly astonished that Orban agreed to give up the ministries of Transport, European Funds and Development, he would have started yelling at his current president with those of the other parties.
Ludovic Orban left home immediately after announcing the ministries that the NLP will have in the government and left the liberal leaders in shock.
Branches in Transylvania are rebelling, say liberal sources, respectively Cluj, Sălaj, Bihor, Arad, Maramureș, Alba, those controlled by influential leaders like Emil Boc and Ilie Bolojan, because Orban would have sacrificed valued ministers and with good results like Lucian . Bode de Transporturi and Marcel Boloș from European Funds. The Ministry of Development was another key point for the party, now it will be at the UDMR.
After the negotiations, the PNL obtained the ministries of Agriculture, Education, Culture, Finance, Interior, Energy, Defense and Foreign Relations. However, the latter belong in reality to Klaus Iohannis, who is very interested in being led by the two specialists, Nicolae Ciucă and Bogdan Aurescu.
For the liberals it was important for the Ministry of Development, which manages a huge budget, local development programs and money for mayors. Transportation was also on his list of interests, given the infrastructure projects promised in the campaign. However, a great defeat for them is the loss of the Ministry of European Funds, together with the Resilience Plan, which is very important for Klaus Iohannis, who negotiated in Brussels the funds that belong to Romania from the European economic reconstruction plan, and which was one of the main points of the PNL electoral campaign.
Another source of outrage among liberals is that Orban avoids convening the Political Bureau meeting, where the ministries received and future ministers must be validated by vote.
The president of the PNL fears that in this meeting he will be asked to retire or vote to replace his position as candidate for the presidency of the Chamber of Deputies by another liberal.
In addition, the fact that he insists that his close friend, Ionel Dancă, be appointed finance minister, generates additional discontent and it is announced that the BPN meeting will be extremely tense.
