The second set was balanced, none of the players failed to resolve the dispute. Sorana saved two break points at 4-4 and 5-5, managing to tip the balance in the tiebreaker.
In the decider, Cîrstea broke at 3-3, managing to take advantage of the sixth opportunity, then came back from 0-40 on her own serve and broke at 5-3. The Romanian missed two match balls on this scoreboard, but ended the match with a “white” ball (6-4).

The only previous match had been won by Konta, in 2017, in the second round at Eastbourne, 6-2, 6-2.
Cîrstea has now matched her best performance at the US Open, the third round (2009, 2019).
Sorana Cirstea will meet Karolina Muchova
Sorana Cirstea secured a check for $ 163,000 and 130 WTA points, and in the next round she will face 30th seed Karolina Mucha.
It will be her first match on the professional circuit against the Czech (24 years old, 26 WTA), who defeated the Russian Ana Kalinskaia 6-3, 7-6 (4) in the round of 16. In the first round, Muchova defeated American Venus Williams (40 years old), 6-3, 7-5.
