On the night of Thursday to Friday, a fire broke out at the Socola Psychiatric Institute in Iasi, causing the death of a 33-year-old patient. The man was in a buffer zone pavilion, with individual reserves, awaiting the result of the COVID-19 test, when employees saw black smoke in the corridors of the medical unit. ISU: “Smoking was the cause of the fire”

“The 33-year-old man was semi-conscious, had burns and symptoms of poisoning from smoke and toxic gases after burning a bed mattress. At 4:00 a.m. the fire went out. After performing resuscitation maneuvers, the victim was pronounced dead at 6:00 a.m. The probable cause of the fire was the smoke ”, transmitted the representatives of ISU Iași.

The manager of the medical unit, Bogdan Șaramet, told Libertatea that he did not understand how he could have started the fire for smoking, because the patient would not have been able to carry cigarettes. He added that the fire was located in the four-square-meter reserve where the 33-year-old man was hospitalized.

Bogdan Șaramet explained that the hospitalization procedure of a patient involves a search made by the police team, which takes him to the medical unit, and another record in the hospital triage to make sure that the patient does not have objects with which he can hurt himself . .
