Health Minister Nelu Tătaru explained the large number of COVID-19 cases reported on Wednesday as a result of a busy month, with holiday returns and public transport congestion. Failure to comply with the rules, says the minister, could lead to an increase in the number of cases, up to 2,000 per day.
“We had days with 692 cases, there are days with 1,111 cases, today is the day with 1,713 cases out of almost 26,000 tests performed. This increase in the number of cases should be seen in the context of evaluating multiple tests, but also in the context of evaluating multiple outbreaks in epidemiological investigations. We do not evaluate daily, but we evaluate at 7 days, we evaluate at 14 days. As I said, we are in a month in which we will have a fluctuation in the number of cases and the number of tests, but it is also the month with more measures to return to a quasi-normality, including here the resumption of the school year, campaign month elections, the resumption of activity in restaurants, cinemas, theaters, the return of the population from vacations, the congestion of public transport and the month-end elections. During this period, there was a fairly congested public transport in which it is worth mentioning once again that some rules must be followed. I know that we are in a hurry, that we have started economic activities, we have started school, but precautions must be maximum. We estimate an increase in the number of cases, it remains to be reassessed in the coming days, “said Nelu Tătaru on Digi 24, Wednesday night, according to news.ro.
The Health Minister believes that “it is premature to speak of the opening of the school as an increase in cases”, but added that an evaluation will be made in early October.
“It is premature to speak of the opening of the school as a greater number of cases, we will evaluate this at the end of the month and the beginning of October, but, I repeat, there are private events, there is public transport, there are outbreaks in institutions for the elderly, there are still outbreaks in hospitals and I would also recommend, both to those who organize private events and to those who organize public transport, to those who attend in these institutionalized centers, that they keep and maintain these precautions and observe the rules: mask, spacing, disinfectant ”, declared Tataru.
The minister added that there are outbreaks in institutions for the elderly, but also in hospitals.
“There are older outbreaks in general and in those institutions with the elderly, as well as in certain hospital units, but there are also economic units where we have positive cases. We still have counties like Prahova, Iaşi and Vaslui, we have reports in Bucharest. And there are tests that have been done in the last 2-3 days, but are reported today. I cling to the same idea in which we must maintain those precautions, respect for hygiene and whatever activity we do. We manage a very difficult month as activities and we are going on the milestones that we have established with a maintenance on that plateau, around 1,500 and with slight fluctuations from one day to the next, to be able to manage this situation medically ”, Tataru also declared.
Nelu Tataru noted that non-compliance with the rules can lead to significant increases in Covid cases.
“It is a one-day evaluation. I want to keep the evaluation both daily and weekly and to be able to speak at 14 days, at the end of this month, of an evolution on the same plateau, but that is only up to us, respecting the rules. Non-compliance with the rules can go from 1,500 to 2,000 cases a day, ”Tataru also declared.
The highest daily number of COVID-19 cases since the pandemic broke out on Wednesday, when the Strategic Communication Group announced 1,713 new cases of the disease, bringing the total to 107,011.
