The snow cover in Moscow reached 56 centimeters after a snowfall, which according to Russian meteorologists was “apocalyptic”. Road traffic was paralyzed and dozens of flights were delayed, reports EFE.

“56 centimeters of snow fell in Moscow … the last time it snowed so much in the Russian capital was in March 2013,” a spokesman for the Phobos meteorological services told the RIA news agency, writes Agerpres.

The aforementioned source added that “it is very possible” that the snow cover in the city reaches 60 centimeters, breaking the record registered in 1956.

At the same time, in the Moscow province the accumulated snow already reaches 71 centimeters, according to the aforementioned expert.

It has been snowing heavily in the Russian capital since Friday afternoon and according to experts, it will continue to snow on Saturday and Sunday.

Moscow’s transportation services said dozens of flights had been canceled or postponed and that authorities had to come to the aid of 100 cars and 387 trucks stuck in the snow on the city’s arteries.
