There are more than 200 Romanians on five coaches stranded on the Franco-British border in Dover after Paris announced a suspension of traffic tonight due to a new strain of coronavirus. And yessituation of Roma truck driversThe years trapped in UK customs have turned critical.

Adriana Mureșan, TIR host, member of “Volunteers in Europe”: As you know, I have been a member of the association ‘Volunteers in Europe’, and we have been in the French government since 9:00 p.m. last night, when we learned that the French government would not allow the entry of passengers or vehicles from the United Kingdom . we moved quickly because we knew what was happening, we knew there would be thousands of trucks blocked. Overall, there are around 10,000 trucks in the UK. In the situation in which Brexit is being prepared, several cargo trucks have entered, so now there are many more.

Last night we prepared urgently, we mobilized all the volunteers from Great Britain, trying to meet the needs of my colleagues, truckers, parcels, because they are blocked both on roads, on public roads and in parking lots … Last night it was no longer possible to travel from London to the port or to the Eurotunnel areas. Two large parking lots were opened, with several thousand spaces, but they were filled immediately.

Today we found out, because people called us who asked us for help, that there are five buses and more than ten minibuses with Romanians, trapped somewhere 30 kilometers from Dover, in a parking lot.

You need food and water. We are in contact with the British embassy, because our volunteers will need some permits, authorizations to travel to help both drivers and stranded passengers.

The critical situation is the one that presented itself to us an hour ago: buses blocked 30 kilometers from the port of Dover. There are many passengers, there are children, the elderly, pregnant women and they will need a lot of support and help from us. We don’t know exactly how many Romanians there are. There may be 200, there may be 250 …

There are five coaches going to Romania and there are also minibuses with passengers. They were detained by the British police due to the fact that France no longer receives passengers or cargo.

However, it seems they are fine, they have toilets where they are detained, but unfortunately they will not be able to buy food and water.

The measure of closing the border is extraordinary, it is very interesting, because in the pandemic the transport of goods circulated throughout Europe. This time, it seems that the French government has made this decision, from the transport of goods, not even from its own drivers.

We have launched messages of support and help in all languages, because if the volunteers from Great Britain, from the Association “Volunteers in Europe” are going to intervene, they will do so to help everyone, so that any passenger or driver caught in these locks. you will be helped by us, regardless of your nationality.

Absolutely nothing enters France last night after 22:00, neither cargo nor passengers.
