Interior Minister Marcel Vela says Liviu Vasilescu’s decision to retire as head of the Romanian police is correct and it was agreed not to affect the image and credibility of the institution, writes Agerpres.
“It is the correct decision we made so that the image and credibility of the Romanian Police are not affected or questioned. After the discussion I had with him, he agreed to retire from the position of Inspector General, stating that the police work is maintained and continues fulfilling their duties as an officer, for which I have accepted all the leadership of the Ministry of the Interior. The Romanian police now need to focus exclusively on the problems they have in their functions, that is to say firmly enforcing the law, “Marcel Vela told B1 TV on Tuesday night.
It specified that, in order to guarantee continuity in the management act of this institution of the Ministry of the Interior, it decided that the Deputy Inspector General of Police Quaestors Eduard Militescu should continue with his activity and temporarily exercise command of the Romanian Police until the appointment of an officer to take over this capacity.
On Tuesday, Liviu Vasilescu announced that he is retiring from the position of inspector general of the Romanian Police, following the scandal at the funeral of Emi Pian. Vasilescu accused of a media attack focused on the Romanian police.
“Please allow me to retire from the position of Inspector General of the Romanian Police today, remain a police officer and perform the tasks that will be entrusted to me,” said the former quaestor.
