On Monday morning, Interior Minister Marcel Vela had a telephone conversation with his Hungarian counterpart, Sandor Pinter, in the context of the traffic restrictions for foreign citizens imposed by the Hungarian authorities, starting on September 1, 2020. At the proposal of the Romanian side, Hungary agreed to maintain according to four more border crossings, in addition to the eight initially communicated.
The two dignitaries discussed together the measures that the Hungarian side can take. At the proposal of the Romanian side, Hungary agreed to keep four more border crossings in operation, in addition to the eight initially communicated.
Thus, the following border crossings are open to the transit of Romanian citizens:
PETEA – CSENGERSIMA, intended for the international traffic of people and goods (transit);
URZICENI – VÁLLAJ, intended for international trafficking in persons (transit);
MIHAI VALLEY – NYÍRÁBRÁNY, intended for international traffic of people and goods (transit)
BORŞ – ÁRTÁND, intended for the international traffic of people and goods (transit)
VĂRŞAND – GYULA, intended for the international traffic of people and goods (transit)
TURNU – BATONYA, intended for the international traffic of people and goods (transit)
NĂDLAC – NAGYLAK, intended for international traffic of people and goods (transit)
NĂDLAC 2 (highway) – CSANÁDPALOTA, intended for international traffic of people and goods (transit).
CENAD – KISZOMBOR – also destined for the transit of cross-border workers
CURTICI – LOKOSHAZA (railway)
SĂCUIENI – LETAVERTES – intended for all types of traffic
SALONTA – MEHKERE – also intended for the transit of cross-border workers
International merchandise traffic will NOT be restricted, it will be carried out under the same conditions as before.
In addition, the two ministers also agreed to put the new PTF Borș II into operation in the shortest possible time, which will be inaugurated on September 4, 2020.
At the invitation of Minister Vela, the two dignitaries agreed to have a meeting in Romania at the end of September, with their Hungarian counterpart, to discuss issues related to bilateral relations between the two ministries.
Travel conditions in Hungary
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bogdan Aurescu, also held a telephone conversation this Saturday with his Budapest counterpart, Péter Szijjártó, confirming that the latter will continue to allow the transit of Hungarian territory under the same conditions. The Hungarian official specified that the rules to be changed refer to entering Hungary as the final destination of the trip.

The Ministry recalls that the following passenger transit conditions currently apply:
– the duration of the transit should not exceed 24 hours;
– people who do not have specific symptoms of COVID-19 infection;
– Present a document that unequivocally proves the purpose of the trip and the country of destination, respectively, having secured entry into the territory of the neighboring state of Hungary, located on the transit route to the country of destination.
