Aurelian Bădulescu, Deputy Mayor of Bucharest, stated on Digi24 that the decision of the Mayor of Sector 2, Dan-Cristian Popescu, to reopen the parks is personal and does not represent the point of view of the national authorities and the joint decision made by all mayors.
“I personally am not dissatisfied with an individual action by Mr. Popescu. I am dissatisfied and upset with the way in which Mr. Popescu has understood that he applies a personal decision to the detriment of a program of measures that are public records and that they are administered and mandatory as long as they have been issued by the National Committee for Emergency Situations, which clearly regulates how we must together respect the rules of social distancing and isolation to avoid contamination from the community, which I believe had no elements that could not be violated by this decision.
There is a decision of the Municipal Committee for Emergency Situations of the Municipality of Bucharest, for guardianship in such emergencies, which unanimously voted this decision that was in accordance with the entire plan of measures taken at the national level, for which I consider that, at this time, this decision, which is personal, not administrative.
I ask the citizens of Sector 2 to understand that this measure is an expression of Mr. Popescu’s will and does not represent the point of view of national and local authorities, “said Aurelian Bădulescu.
The Sector 2 City Council reopened the parks on Saturday. A city council document argues that this would protect people who run out of cars.
The parks have been closed since March, through one of the first military ordinances.
