– Eric, after the Al-Ahli experience you went back to Romania again.
“I come from Saudi Arabia, I wanted to go abroad, but Pustai asked me to help him in Pandurii.” I played for a year and they wanted to make me a contract again. I didn’t want to anymore, and the first day after Viitorul won the championship, they called me. “Do you want him to come here with us?” He was unpretentious, he was 31 years old. We agreed on the money they offered me. It was an accepted challenge. They were champions, they played the Champions League preliminaries. It was an opportunity. I had a very good championship, but I went to Qatar after 6 months.
– How did you meet Gica Hagi?
– At a game in Ghencea. They played Steaua with Pandurii, without spectators. I hurt myself, on crutches, I was paralyzed when I saw it. He yelled at me, “What are you doing, Eric?” Then I asked to take a photo together because I did not know if I would have this opportunity again. Since then we have seen each other in matches, even in Mediaș. In 2016-2017 we were the only team that defeated Viitorul, then we played a 1-1 match with them and in interviews he talked about decars and said they are the only decars in Romania. I gave the video to the wife, I didn’t think she was talking about me that way. Then came the opportunity to work with Mr. Hagi, they were wonderful months.
– No footballer told me about Coach Hagi. How is he?
– The man focuses only on football. I was surprised what he was saying was happening! On the field he said that if we close somewhere or pass in some way, we win! So it was. In training, the man was blind. All he did was do what he wanted and what he thought. It was hard, very hard. But outside of football, he was a different man. The players were embarrassed to call Hagi to sit down with him for coffee and talking about soccer. One day I took this step: “Mystery, I want you to teach me. You are the best in the history of Romania.”
– With Viitorul you won two trophies.
– Yes, the Romanian Cup and the Super Cup, and I appreciate it. Hagi hoped that he would always be well physically. When he came back from Qatar he loved me, he said he needed me. I sat on the bench for a long time, but the whole time I walked in I did my job. After another six months, everything went wrong in the relationship between us and we left.
– Did you fight with Hagi?
– I didn’t fight Hagi, maybe Hagi fought me. I was always talking about kilograms, because I didn’t keep my promise. That was!
