The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bogdan Aurescu, held a telephone conversation this Saturday with his counterpart in Budapest, Péter Szijjártó, the latter confirming that the transit of Hungarian territory will continue to be allowed under the same conditions. The Hungarian official specified that the rules to be changed refer to entering Hungary as the final destination of the trip, reports Agerpres.

During the discussion, Minister Péter Szijjártó confirmed that the transit of Romanian citizens through Hungary, respectively the access of Romanian citizens – cross-border workers will not be affected. Therefore, according to the Hungarian official, the transit of the Hungarian territory will continue. He noted that the rules that are expected to change refer to entry into Hungary as the final destination of the trip, and suggested that the relevant police authorities of the country. The conversation followed the steps taken by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to obtain clarification from the Hungarian authorities on the information that appeared in the public space about the adoption in the next period of new restrictive measures for the management of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Minister Bogdan Aurescu asked the interlocutor for information on the exact content of the specific measures, insisting on taking into account their impact on Romanian citizens transiting Hungary, as well as on Romanian citizens, cross-border workers.

The Ministry recalls that the following passenger transit conditions currently apply:

– the duration of the transit should not exceed 24 hours;

– people who do not have specific symptoms of COVID-19 infection;

– Present a document that unequivocally proves the purpose of the trip and the country of destination, respectively, having secured entry into the territory of the neighboring state of Hungary, located on the transit route to the country of destination.
