How many votes did the PSD get for the motion of no confidence? Orban’s government is hanging by a thread

In the Chamber of Deputies, the PSD has 137 members, including deputies from ALDE and PPUSL, who work in the PSD parliamentary group. The Social Democrats lost two deputies the other day: Luminiţa Jivan and Emilia Meiroşu (already registered in the PNL). ProRomania still has 21 votes. In total: 158 votes.

In the Senate, the PSD was left with a dowry of 70 people, after the resignation of the former Minister of Culture, Daniel Breaz. Three more votes come from ProRomania, plus another from Călin Popescu Tăriceanu, who appears as independent, unlike the rest of the ALDE councilors, who are part of the PSD group. Total: 74 votes. Therefore, PSD and associates in Parliament gather 232 votes in favor of the motion in both Houses, one below the majority limit.

Normally, it would be a formality for Marcel Ciolacu to convince another MP to vote against the Orban government. The group of national minorities has 17 deputies, half of whom have always voted with the PSD in the last four years. Besides the group of national minorities, another “unaffiliated” candidate from the PMP, USR or even PSD is “flying” in Parliament. Therefore, Marcel Ciolacu could easily muster a majority for the overthrow of the Government, even without UDMR. On one condition: no one enters the NLP camp.

The Liberals are in intense negotiations with several PSD parliamentarians, but also with the group of national minorities, say Adevărul political sources. The PNL has the absence of some senators and Social Democratic deputies to vote the motion of no confidence, so Marcel Ciolacu does not collect 233 votes. On the other hand, the general secretary of the PSD, Paul Stănescu, threatened the Social Democratic parliamentarians that they would be expelled from the party if they did not vote.

In an online meeting with NLP leaders in the territory, Prime Minister Ludovic Orban assured them that the motion of no confidence will not pass the vote of Parliament, Adevărul political sources say. “On Monday we will have a good time, then we will be calm with the campaign, the government and the elections. The motion does not pass, “Prime Minister Ludovic Orban told NLP leaders in the country, at a meeting on campaign issues. The motion of no confidence presented by PSD will be voted on Monday.
