A border policeman died just a day after testing positive for the new scientific virus SARS-COV-2. It is the third death among police officers caused by coronavirus since the beginning of the pandemic in Romania.

The policeman was 48 years old and worked in the Moldovan Nouă border police sector.

“We bid farewell to our colleague Sporea Ioan, 48 years old from the Moldovan Nouă Border Police Sector-Territorial Inspection of the Timisoara Border Police, who died after being confirmed positive with coronavirus a day ago,” reported the Europol Union, in the institution’s Facebook page.

The deceased border policeman had three children, writes News.ro.


What is the situation of the coronavirus pandemic in Romania? Official figures

So far, 105,298 cases of people infected by the new coronavirus (COVID – 19) have been confirmed in Romania.

Following nationwide testing, compared to the last report, 1,111 new cases of people infected with SARS – CoV – 2 (COVID – 19) were recorded, cases that had not previously had a positive test.

Unlike the newly confirmed cases, after retesting patients who were already positive, 591 people were positively reconfirmed.

To date, 4,236 people diagnosed with COVID-19 infection have died.

In health units, the total number of people hospitalized for COVID-19 is 6,881. Of these, 460 are hospitalized in ATI.

To date, 2,110,024 tests have been processed nationwide. Of these, 21,049 were performed in the last 24 hours, 12,767 based on the case definition and medical protocol and 8,327 upon request.

Bucharest (214) and the counties of Ilfov (53), Suceava (53), Cluj (49) and Iasi (46) are the areas with the most confirmed cases of coronavirus compared to the last report, the Communication Group reports on Tuesday Strategic (GCS).

The lowest number of cases was registered in the counties of Vrancea (5), Mureş (5), Hunedoara (7), Călăraşi (7).
