As of January 1, 2021, European citizens, including Romanians, will need a visa to be able to work and study in Great Britain, in the context of Brexit, Prime Minister Florin Cîțu announced on Wednesday, at the end of the meeting of the Government. Citizens traveling to the UK for tourist reasons do not need a visa.

“Brexit ends on December 31, which means that as of January 1, 2021, the UK will have a third-state status relative to EU states, including Romania,” Citu said. He specified that in terms of short-term trips, less than six months a year, for tourist purposes, European citizens, including Romanians, can travel without a visa.

But a visa is required for those who are going to work or study in the UK. “In order to work and study in the UK from January 1, 2021, European citizens, including Romanians, will need a visa,” Cîțu said.

He specified that more information can be found on the Government’s website, on the platform brexit.gov.ro.

The historic post-Brexit deal was signed on Wednesday by the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, and the President of the European Council, Charles Michel.
