The former FC Barcelona and Napoli midfielder had been hospitalized on November 2 for anemia and dehydration in the city of La Plata, 60 km from Buenos Aires, where he was leading the local team.

The tests revealed the presence of a subdural hematoma, a blood clot formed on the surface of the brain. For this reason, he was transferred to a private clinic in Olivos, near Buenos Aires, where he underwent surgery the next day. He was discharged on November 11.

Maradona was buried Thursday night in a private ceremony in a Buenos Aires cemetery at the end of a day in which thousands of people paid their last respects.

There has been much speculation about how the great soccer player died, and the Buenos Aires Police are trying to clarify what happened on the day of his death.

Maradona died of hunger

According to the Argentine press, the last person who saw Diego Armando Maradono alive was his nephew.

The Argentine news agency Télam announced that the police found in Diego Maradona’s room two boxes of medicines, pills against heartburn, for which Maradona had a prescription. On the other hand, one of the Argentine journalists revealed that, on the footballer’s bed, the police found a sandwich: “It was with sliced bread and whole wheat bread, not started.”

Coming from the marginal neighborhoods of Buenos Aires, “El Pibe de oro”, as Diego Maradona was nicknamed, will continue to be the symbol and undisputed captain of the Argentine national team, wearing the jersey that he played for 17 years (1977-1994) and marked 50 goals in 115 games, giving his country the second World Cup in history in 1986.
