The head of the National Committee for the Coordination of Vaccination Activities, Dr. Valeriu Gheorghiţă, announced on Friday that the second tranche of vaccine is estimated to arrive on December 28 and will contain approximately 150,000 doses.

“It is estimated for December 28. It is an estimate. We will know two days in advance, but the delivery schedule at this time will be weekly. Practically, each week between 140,000 and 150,000 doses will arrive in Romania,” said on Friday the Dr. Gheorghiţă, according to Agerpres.

Asked about the small intention to vaccinate in Romania, Dr. Valeriu Gheorghiţă said that this “does not reflect the negative, because a good part of the people, at this moment, need more information to decide in the end if they will vaccinate”.

“It just came to our knowledge then gives for vaccination it does not mean a refusal, “Gheorghiţă stressed.

He reported that the vaccination rate is estimated, in the general population, at around 30% – 40%.

Relaxation of restrictions related to the degree of vaccination

The head of the Emergency Department, Raed Arafat, explained that between 60% and 70% of the population needs to be vaccinated to “break the vicious cycle” of infection.

But this, of course, also depends on the participation of the population and will take several months. (…) Starting vaccination is a step that, if it is followed and done correctly and the population is convinced, answering their questions, of course, to get vaccinated, when we reach 60% – 70% we can say that the vicious circle it can be interrupted, ”said Arafat.

According to Dr. Valeriu Gheorghiţă, “at a level of vaccine coverage and a herd immunization of around 60% – 70%, practically, from an epidemiological point of view, the negative consequences decrease substantially, the circulation of the virus decreases a lot and then we can really are talking about a relaxation of restrictions ”.

Information campaign

He said that the success of this campaign depends on “communication, information, transparency, honesty, the presentation of all the benefits of the importance of vaccination and the risks associated with these activities.”

“I believe that if, step by step, we present to the public in a manner that is as transparent, open and honest as possible, information from official sources and scientifically validated and verified, I believe that only in this way can we increase credibility, we can increase trust. population in vaccination, because, really, it is the safest, shortest and correct medical route, through which we can put an end to this pandemic ”, said Dr. Valeriu Gheorghiţă.

The first 10,000 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine entered Romania on Friday, at Nădlac Customs. The vaccines will be stored at the Cantacuzino Medical-Military Institute, from where they will be distributed to the 10 front-line hospitals in the fight against the pandemic. The vaccine doses will be transported on carbonic ice to keep them at a temperature of -70 degrees Celsius.
