Professor Alexandru Rafila stated on Digi24 late Wednesday that a new quarantine is not required at this time, speaking in context about the situation in France, where President Emmanuel Macron announced the re-establishment of a new “lockdown”.
Romania’s representative at the WHO said that “it is obvious” that France “has two and a half times as many cases as we do, compared to the population, which is at least three times higher.” The decision of the French authorities can be explained. “
“Unfortunately, more and more countries in the European Union are experiencing these types of developments, which make health systems unsustainable, that is, unable to take care of all patients and I am not just referring to intensive care patients , but also other patients. , with medium shapes. For example, in Belgium they do not have access to hospital medical services if they suffer from medium forms of disease, ”added Rafila.
He said that, under these conditions, quarantine is the only solution, but that “it is important not to get there, through preventive measures.”
Alexandru Rafila also said about the situation in France that “the use of the mask was a joke in the local area, in the public catering area. Do not use the mask in any way. “The current explosion of cases is, after all, the result of total relaxation, which – after the hot season, which led to a decline in cases – has determined the situation we see now,” he said.
When asked if Romania should impose a total quarantine, Alexandru Rafila replied: “At the moment, no.”
“We have a somewhat better situation, we had a permanent increase, we did not have that decrease during the summer, on the contrary, all summer we registered an increase in the number of cases. Something happened that, in my opinion, could have been done better, the public health system was not strengthened in any way, focused on a possible resurgence in the number of cases, and I did not prepare myself in terms of the ability to test a structure of training of personnel and the introduction of an external quality control that would make all the results of the system credible ”, said Alexandru Rafila.
Today, President Klaus Iohannis told a press conference that “the situation does not make us think of a quarantine or a lockdown.”
