Romanians are more afraid of missing their mini-vacation on December 1 than COVID. Although Predeal is on the red stage, it is a highly coveted destination. hoteliers make the most of this holiday of December 1 and hope they recover at least part of the disaster that 2020 meant for tourism. In the last week, at Predeal, the phones rang continuously and some reservations had already been made a few months earlier. Saturday open sthe ski season Y in the town of Straja, amid European controversy over the opportunity to keep the slopes open. Plate noteHowever, the fun of December 1 will be found in hospitals overwhelmed by patients during Christmas, if prevention rules are not observed, warns Dr. Beatrice Mahler, manager of the Marius Nasta Institute.
Nothing scares tourists, not even the coronavirus.
“A very pleasant environment, especially for them. It is the first snow of this year,” says a tourist who came to Predeal with her children.
“During this pandemic, I don’t think there will be many activities. Skiing, but I don’t think sledging is the case yet. They are the best things to do,” says a young man.
Phones rang continuously in Predeal hotels
Although the slopes were not officially opened, this did not prevent tourists from coming with the sled and enjoying the first snow of winter.
Hotel reservations were made a few months in advance, and in the last week the reception phones of the accommodation units have not stopped ringing.
“The reservations were made six months before or three months before, but at the same time and they were canceled a week before. I can tell you that in the last week we had 50% of reservations canceled and rescheduled even twice in the same week, “says Marius Ioniță, the manager of an accommodation unit at Predeal.
Some hotels and pressures have already inflated prices by 30% compared to last weekend. In others, the rates are even lower than on the holiday of December 1 of last year.
An “economy” double room costs 150 lei and a double room higher than 290 lei, while the price of the apartments starts at 350 lei.
“For this weekend we have prepared a traditional menu, compared to what we have in summer. We put some new dishes on the menu, “says Ioana Țuțui, administrator of the pension.
For lovers of hiking, the tourist routes will be reopened.
“During the weekend, the chairlift for the Gârbova area will run, then Clabucetul Taurului and the other routes leading to the Azuga spa,” says Marius Cătălin Câmpeanu, director of the National Center for Tourist Information and Promotion in Predeal.
A round trip with the chairlift for adults costs 25 lei and for children 15 lei. Tourists can also ride an ATV and enjoy the late autumn view.
The guard prepared to receive tourists
At Straja, the snow on the slopes measures about 12 inches, and some of it was secured with the help of artificial snow cannons, which were launched on 18 November. Cabin owners and trail managers have taken steps to allow tourists to respect the distance rules imposed by the coronavirus pandemic.
Tourists arriving at Straja station will be able to ski on the Plateau Soarelui slope.
“Since there are more special conditions, I can say that we have prepared intensively for this. I worked a lot on everything that means social distance, I changed everything that means access to cable transport facilities, to the turnstiles at the gates. I put them at a distance of 2 m ”, assures Valentin Huda, slope manager.
The managers of the equipment rental centers have been working for a week to put everything in order.
“We are preparing as every year, more a little more now. We are preparing with more detailed hygiene measures, more precisely: we have disinfected all the ski equipment, which we will do every time each person carries it. After a rental, we disinfect with specialized products, professional products ”, explains Talita Amurăriței, manager of the ski center.
People entering the rental center must wear a mask and will not have access to more than three people at a time.
Tourists coming to Straja should know that the rental price of the equipment remained the same as last season. Those who want a complete ski equipment will pay 25 lei, and for a board they will give 30 lei.
The Straja resort can be reached by car, along the county road leading up from Lupeni. The way was prepared for the tourists: the gutters were cleaned to drain the water, the small trees on the side of the road were cut down.
Dr. Beatrice Mahler: We have to stay home!
However, doctors will not have a vacation, on the contrary, they are preparing for an even more busy period. I look with concern at the hustle and bustle of the mini-vacation on December 1.
“I would like to believe that we will all spend this vacation at home, in the little family. I am afraid, because these days off, which are four, mean for many Romanians mini-vacations that they take in different areas and that worries me, because it is impossible to avoid contact, if you go to areas where the population comes from other regions and is very little homogeneous. If in these four days we do not understand that we have to stay at home, at Christmas we will have full hospitals, as a result of this behavior that we have now, as of December 1, ”said Dr. Beatrice Mahler, manager of the Marius Nasta Institute in Digi24. Bucharest.
In addition, it points out that the vast majority of future patients do not live in cities, where access to health services is easier, but in the countryside, in remote areas, where it is more difficult for them to reach a clinic and services. doctors. ambulance with difficulty reaching these areas. “The diagnosis and infection of COVID is gradually moving to our homes, wherever they are, whether in cities or in the countryside, in villages, and we must draw attention to the need for a diagnosis at least with rapid tests than to get to the GP’s offices, “said Dr. Beatrice Mahler.
