The former mayor of Constanza, Radu Mazăre, was acquitted this Monday by the Constanza Court of Appeals in a case in which he was tried because he allegedly sold several parcels of land in Mamaia at an undervalued price, the prosecutors of the National Anti-Corruption Directorate considering that it would have caused damages of about four million euros. The decision of the Court of Appeal is final. In the first instance, he had been sentenced in this case to six and a half years in prison.
The Constanza Court of Appeal decided, on Monday, to annul the contested decision, re-tried the case and decided to acquit the former mayor of Constanza, Radu Mazăre, for abuse of office, but also Sorina Gina Hortolomei Moscu and SC Mehmetoglu SRL for money laundering. .

The decision of the Constanza Court of Appeal is final.
In May 2018, Radu Mazăre had been sentenced in this case by the Court of Constance to three and a half years in prison for selling an undervalued price of one of the lands, to four and a half years in prison for selling another at an undervalued price . land and two and a half years in prison because he did not suspend from office several mayoral employees who had been sent to trial. Thus, the court decided to merge the sentences, resulting in Radu Mazăre having to serve a sentence of six and a half years in prison.

According to the indictment, on October 12, 2004 Radu Mazăre, as mayor of Constanza, defectively fulfilled his functions related to the correct management and administration of the city’s heritage, during the sale at a ridiculous price, according to prosecutors of DNA. , 23.56 euros / m2, of a plot of 15,465.91 m2, located in the Mamaia spa.
By means of this deed, the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office established that a loss of 1,104,884.16 euros was caused to the territorial administrative unit and at the same time undue benefits were obtained for the buyer of the property.

On May 31, 2007, Sorina Gina Hortolomei Moscow and SC Mehmetoglu SRL acquired, by purchase, from RAEDPP Constanţa, a piece of land with an area of 502.81 m2, knowing that the assigned price was much lower than the real commercial value.
Subsequently, the respective land was transferred to the companies SC Bulevard SA (10/31/2007) and SC Millennium Global Development SA (12/16/2010), represented by Sorina Gina Hortolomei Moscow.

“The respective transactions were carried out due to the successive increase in price, so SC Millennium Global Development SA acquired the respective lands at a value approximately equal to the market value, disguising the illicit origin of these lands,” the prosecutors also stated.
He was also accused by prosecutors of failing to suspend several employees of the Constanta City Council, who had been prosecuted for various crimes.

Radu Mazăre is currently serving a nine-year prison sentence in the Mamaia restitution case. He is also being tried in several instrumental cases by DNA prosecutors.
